International Booker Prize 2023: As the International Booker Prize winner is set to be announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday (May 23), here's everything you need to know, from the six nominees to where and when to watch. The International Booker Prize recognises the best works of literature written in languages other than English that have been translated and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland. As the shortlist for this year is revealed, we look at the six outstanding books that have been nominated.

SHORTLISTED TITLES FOR THE YEAR 2023: 

  • Boulder by Eva Baltasar, translated by Julia Sanches
  • Whale by Cheon Myeong-kwan, translated by Chi-Young Kim
  • The Gospel According to the New World by Maryse Condé, translated by Richard Philcox
  • Standing Heavy by GauZ’, translated by Frank Wynne
  • Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov, translated by Angela Rodel
  • Still Born by Guadalupe Nettel, translated by Rosalind Harvey 

WHEN AND WHERE TO WATCH BOOKER PRIZE 2023: 

According to the website of the International Booker Prize 2023, Lela Slimani, a prize-winning French-Moroccan novelist, chairs the judging panel. Uilleam Blacker, one of the UK's leading literary translators from Ukrainian; Tan Twan Eng, the Booker Prize-nominated Malaysian novelist; Parul Sehgal, staff writer and critic at the New Yorker; and Frederick Studemann, Literary Editor of the Financial Times, are also on the panel.

The 2023 judges will select the best work of international fiction translated into English from entries published in the United Kingdom or Ireland between May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023. The books, authors, and translators honoured by the prize provide readers with a window into the world and the opportunity to live the lives of people from various cultures.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony at the Sky Garden in London on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. From 21:40 BST (UK time), you can watch the livestream here. The live streaming times for literature enthusiasts in India will be 2:10 AM Wednesday, Indian Standard Time (IST).
