The sixth day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated by worshiping Goddess Katyayni. The Goddess is known to be the most powerful among all the incarnations of Goddess Durga.
New Delhi: The nine days of Navratri are celebrated by worshiping the nine different incarnations of Goddess Durga, each one of them teaching a different lesson about life.
Significance
The sixth day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated by worshiping Goddess Katyayni. The Goddess is known to be the most powerful among all the incarnations of Goddess Durga and is known as the warrior Goddess. She is believed to have killed the demon named Mahishasur.
Appearance
Goddess Katyayni carries a lotus flower and a sword in her hands, while the other two hands are held in Abhaya and Varada Mudras. The incarnation gives the message of strength and compassion in the Goddess.
She is believed to be worshipped by Goddess Sati, Rukmini, and other ‘gopis’ in the Braj region.
Prayer And Bhog
Goddess Katyayni is offered honey during the prayers as she is believed to like honey.
Colour Of The Day
On day 6 of the Chaitra Navratri, red flowers are offered to the Goddess and many devotees also prefer to wear red on this day.

The mantra that should be chanted on this day is- Om Devi Katyayanyai Namah
Another mantra that can be chanted is- Katyayani Shubham Dadyad Devi
Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Ma Katyayani Rupena Samsthita
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah
The Chitra Navratri of this year began on April 2 and will conclude on April 11. The day will be celebrated as Ram Navmi for the birth of Lord Ram.
