Masik Shivratri is also dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. On this day, Lord Shiva is worshipped following all the rituals and a fast is observed to worship the Hindu God. Ashwin month will now begin after the month of Bhadon. Masik Shivratri will be celebrated on October 4 which is the fourteenth day of the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. According to religious beliefs, by fasting and worshipping on the day of Masik Shivratri, Lord Shankar fulfills all wishes.
The texts mention that Goddess Lakshmi, Indrani, Saraswati, Gayatri, Savitri, Sita, Parvati also observed the fast and performed puja of Shivratri to worship Lord Shiva. The right time to please Lord Shiva takes place is during the 'Pradosh Kaal (period)'. It is believed that it is auspicious to worship Lord Shiva at a time when day and night are about to meet. Not only that, worshipping Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva on this day relieves a person from all kinds of suffering and debts.
Masik Shivratri Date (Ashwin Month Shivratri Tithi)
According to panchang, the fourteenth day of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is celebrated as Masik Shivratri. This time it will be celebrated on October 4. Chaturdashi will start at 09:05 pm on October 4 and conclude on 05 October at 07:04 pm.
Monthly Shivratri Puja Ritual (Masik Shivratri Pujan Vidhi)
Devotees who fast on the Masik Shivratri should ensure that they stay up all night and worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. On this day, one should wake up before sunrise, have a bath, visit a temple and perform puja for Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati and their family. During the puja, perform Rudraabhishek of Shivlinga with panchamrit water, pure ghee, milk, sugar, honey, curd. Don't forget to offer Belpatra (Vine leaves), Dhatura (Harebell), and Coconut on Shivlinga during Shiva puja.
Then worship Lord Shiva with incense sticks, lamps, fruits, and flowers. While performing the puja of Masik Shivratri, one must make sure to recite Shiva Purana, Shiva Stuti, Shiva Ashtak, Shiva Chalisa and Shiva Shloka after the puja. It is forbidden to consume food during the fast of the Masik Shivratri. You can eat fruits in the evening but cannot eat food. The next day, after taking bath, worship Lord Shiva and end the fast after performing charity (daan).
