Wayanad Student Suicide Case: Only Competent Authority Can Act, Incumbent VC Suspended, Says Kerala Guv
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan also accused SFI of turning universities and hostels into hubs of criminal and unlawful activities.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan underscored the importance of adherence to due process citing that the suspension of the Vice-Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was necessitated as only the competent authority could initiate action. Two days ago, Kerala Governor suspended Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Wayanad over the death of a student.
On Kerala Veterinary University Vice-Chancellor's suspension over the death of a student, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said, "Only the competent authority can take action and that is why the incumbent vice-chancellor has been suspended. The remand report says that for two days everyone was witnessing how that young boy was being tortured with belts and wires. The University administration did not know about it?"
"The SFI has turned every university and hostel into a den of criminal activities. All kinds of criminal and unlawful activities. They are criminals masquerading as students... This matter must be investigated by a judge of a High Court," he said.

In the order for suspension, Khan stated that a report submitted by VC Prof (Dr) M R Saseendranath regarding the incident served as "a testimony to the gross dereliction of duty on the part of the Vice Chancellor" during the events that led to the death of 20-year-old JS Siddharth.
On February 18, JS Siddharth, a second-year BVSC student from Nedumangad on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, was found dead by hanging. The police have arrested 18 persons linked to the case.
