Details Of PM Modi's Security Arrangements Leaked, Kerala Govt Is Silent: Union MoS Muraleedharan

The details of security arrangements for PM Narendra Modi's Kerala visit were leaked days after a suicide bomb threat was given to PM Modi ahead of his visit to Kochi.

The details of special security arrangement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kerala got leaked to the media and WhatsApp groups to thousands of people, Union Minister of State and BJP leader V Muraleedharan alleged on Sunday. He remarked that the Kerala government’s silence in the matter was the most surprising. The minister of the External Affairs Ministry said that the person responsible should have been identified and caught within 24 hours, but no action was taken by the authorities. Earlier today, police arrested the person who wrote a letter threatening to launch a suicide bomb attack on PM Modi during his visit to Kochi.

“It's surprising that the details of the security arrangements that were proposed to be organised for the PM got leaked into the media and WhatsApp groups of thousands of people. But the most surprising thing is the silence that is maintained by the Kerala govt. Within 24 hrs the person responsible should have been identified, but no action is taken”, Muraleedharan said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The person who was arrested on Sunday was identified as Xavier.

On Saturday, Kerala BJP chief K Surendran said that he had received a letter last week about a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Kerala.

While talking to ANI, Kochi City Police Commissioner, K Sethu Raman said, “The person who sent the threat letter against the Prime Minister was arrested. Xavier, the accused, was arrested yesterday. The reason is personal enmity. He wrote the letter to trap his neighbour. We found him with the help of forensics”.

Meanwhile, the Police had held a meeting in Kerala's Kochi Police camp to assess the security arrangements ahead of PM Modi's visit to the city. Raman and other officials attended the meeting on Sunday.

The PM will reach Kochi on April 24 and hold a roadshow. He will attend "yuvam" programme where he will interact with young voters.

Modi will flag off Kerala's first Vande Bharat Express between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod at Thiruvananthapuram Central Station on April 25. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and dedicate various projects to the nation worth more than Rs 3200 crores. He will dedicate the Kochi Water Metro to the nation.
