Karnataka Milk Federation Nandini Puts Expansion Plan On Hold In Kerala

Kerala Minister Chinchu Rani said that the decision has come in the wake of change in the Karnataka government.

Nandhini, Karnataka's Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited, which launched a few outlets in Kerala has decided to put on hold its decision to expand in the state. Minister Chinchu Rani welcomed the move and said that Kerala wanted milk and milk products from Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation's (KCMMF) Milma.

Kerala Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Milk Cooperatives J Chinchu Rani, as per PTI, said, "She received information in this regard from the CEO of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which uses the trade name Nandini."

She said that the information has been received from the CEO that Nandini would not open new outlets in the state for the time being.

Chinchu Rani said that the decision has come in the wake of change in Karnataka government.

Earlier, Chinchu Rani said that Nandhini and Milma are state-supported organisations so the state's permission should be taken.

The CPI (M)-led LDF government too expressed concern over the entry into Nandhini in the state. The Kerala government too gave a complaint with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to resolve the issue.

In April, KCMMF called Nandhini's entry into the state as "unethical".

Milma Chairman K S Mani, as per PTI, said, "Of late, there has been a growing tendency on the part of some of the state milk marketing federations to market their staple products outside their respective domain."

"This grossly violates the federal principles and co-operative spirit based on which the country's dairy co-operative movement has been built and nurtured by pioneers like Tribhuvandas Patel and Dr Verghese Kurien," he said.

As a result, he said that as per the existing agreement and courteous business relations, it was blatant encroachment of the sale area of Kerala, as per the report.
