Kerala Police Arrest 4 Karnataka Cops For Extorting Rs 4 Lakh From Accused In Kochi

The four Karnataka police personnel and two youth were intercepted and Rs 3.94 lakh was recovered from the vehicle on Wednesday. 

Kerala police took four cops of Karnataka police department into custody for allegedly accepting bribes from the accused in an online fraud case to avoid arrest. Police officers from Bengaluru's White Field Police Station were apprehended while traveling in a car "seized" from the accused. 

According to ANI, "Kerala | Four police officers including an inspector of the Karnataka police have been arrested in Kochi in a bribery case. They allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakhs from an accused to avoid arrest in a case. Case registered under sections 342,384 385 and 34 IPC."


On Wednesday, the four Karnataka police personnel and two youth were intercepted and Rs 3.94 lakh was recovered from the vehicle. 


The four Karnataka police have been identified as Inspector Sivaprakash and Constables Sivanna, Vijayakumar and Sandesh. 

The officials were released after a CrPC notice was serviced to them, said a report in The Hindu.

They have been told to appear before city police on August 16. 

The City Police Department began the action in response to a complaint filed by a woman with Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Sasidharan. She stated that she spoke with one of the youths detained by the Karnataka police. She said that the accused had stolen her car.

Karnataka police were investigating a car related to a cheating incident in Whitefield at Bengaluru. The case pertains to an online fraud where illegal money was transacted through cryptocurrency. The Karnataka police started investigating the case based on a complaint of a woman who allegedly lost Rs 26 lakh.
