Landslides Reported In Kottayam

On Thursday, heavy rainfall lashed hilly areas of Kottayam district. The sudden rainfall caused landslides in two places and hit traffic flow on various roads.

The vehicular movement came to a standstill even in the popular hill station of Vagamon. The traffic resumed partially in the late evening.

Several rivers and streams witnessed an increase in water levels.

As the operations to clear the rubble from Vagamon-Erattupetta road were ongoing, District Collector V Vigneshwari prohibited vehicular traffic on that route. He also inspected the spot and said that hilly areas should be avoided due to incessant rains.

The Collector said that there were instances of landslides in Inchipara and Aniplavu villages of Theekoy panchayat. However, it did not result in any casualties.

Thalanad panchayat had suffered extensive damage but accurate information has not been received from many places, reported PTI.
