Kerala Govt Orders Probe After CITU Leader's Spouse Buys Mini Cooper Worth Nearly Rs 50 Lakh
Kumar said, his wife, an employee of Indian Oil Corporation, bought the car by availing bank loan.
Kerala CPI (M) has initiated a probe into CITU leader's spouse purchasing a MINI Cooper car at the cost of Rs 5 million recently. The incident of the car purchase came to light after a video of the company employee handing over the key of MINI Cooper car to the CITU leader went viral on social media.
According to IANS, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is a trade wing of CPI(M). Recently, an image of PK Anil Kumar, the general secretary of Petroleum and Gas Workers Union, getting the key of a MINI Cooper car purchased by his wife went viral.
Kumar said, his wife bought the car by availing bank loan. He also stated that the car was bought by complying with established norms. Kumar's wife works with Indian Oil Corporation.
However, after the viral video, people started raising suspicion over the purchase of a car by Kumar's family. A senior journalist also reportedly mocked the Communist leader by questioning how Anil Kumar tries to study how capitalists live by buying a MINI Cooper, said a report on India Today.
However, this is not the first time Anil Kumar enters a controversy. Despite being the general secretary of Petroleum and Gas Workers Union, Kumar was recently in the news for verbally assaulting a woman who runs a gas agency over an employee issue.
Incidentally, not long ago, state CPI(M) secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's using a similar car at a party event came under huge attack on how the poor man's party leaders were engaging in a luxury.
Now, all eyes are on the CPI(M) probe. However, the findings in similar probes by the party have been kept as a closely guarded secret.
