Kerala Budget Session Begins: Governor Cuts Short Speech, Reads Only Last Para During Policy Address

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan who arrived at the Assembly at 9 am wrapped up the policy address before 9:02 am and exited the House by 9:04 am.

In the midst of the persistent tension between the ruling Left front in Kerala and state Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, the Governor swiftly concluded the government's policy address in the Assembly on Thursday. Having arrived at the Assembly at 9 am, Khan wrapped up the policy address before 9:02 am and exited the House by 9:04 am.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan reportedly read only the last paragraph while addressing the beginning of the Kerala Assembly budget session.

He said, "It is my honour to address this august body of the representatives of the people of Kerala, marking the beginning of the 10th session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. And now will read the last paragraph..."

Upon reaching the Assembly, Khan began the customary policy address by greeting everyone in the House and then said, "I will now read the last para."

Reading out the last of the 136 paragraphs of the 62-page policy address, the Governor, as per PTI, said, "Let us remember that our greatest legacy lies not in buildings or monuments, but in the respect and regard we show to the priceless legacy of the Constitution of India and the timeless values of democracy, secularism, federalism and social justice."

The Governor's address in 2024 is set to be recorded as the shortest in the nation's history.

It was already anticipated that Governor Arif Khan would opt out of the criticisms directed at the union government during the 'policy' speech. The Kerala government also carefully refrained from making any comments about the Governor in the prepared speech.

The Budget is anticipated to be introduced on February 5. The session is scheduled for 32 days from Thursday.
