Former Kerala Govt Pleader PG Manu, Accused Of Rape, Surrenders
The accused surrendered after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea two days ago.
A former senior government pleader who was on a run after being accused of rape by a woman multiple times at his office and her residence surrendered in Kochi on Wednesday. Over two weeks ago, Kerala police issued a lookout notice against the accused. The accused lawyer was identified as P G Manu who has functioned as the prosecutor and special public prosecutor in several cases in the past. On Wednesday morning, he surrendered before police, DySP Puthencruz confirmed.
The accused surrendered after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea two days ago. The Supreme Court also gave him 10 days to surrender before the police.
Following this, the police officially recorded his arrest, and efforts were underway to present him before the court.
A complaint from the victim prompted the notice. Following this, the lawyer resigned from his position. Before this, an FIR under various provisions of the IPC, including sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 506 (intimidation), and the Information Technology Act was lodged against the lawyer on November 29 last year.
According to the woman's complaint, the lawyer summoned her to his office under the pretext of recording a statement related to a case where he allegedly raped her thrice in a similar manner. The first incident occurred on October 9, 2023, followed by two more instances on October 24 and October 29 of the same year, as detailed in her complaint. Additionally, she accused him of persistent harassment through phone calls and transmitted explicit photos and videos.
