“Fire broke out in a coach of Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express at Kannur Railway Station of Palakkad Division at 11:07 pm yesterday. Fire likely due to a miscreant activity. No casualty or injury to anyone,” it said.
There was Bharat Petroleum fuel depot near the accident area, a fire rescue officer said PTI.
On Thursday, the Kannur Fire and Rescue Station reportedly received information about the mishap. The team immediately rushed to the site but one of the coaches was completely engulfed in the blaze.
Four fire tenders were involved in extinguishing the fire. The blaze was completely put off by around 3.15 AM, the report said. The police have registered a case and are looking for clues with the help of forensic investigation.
The incident has created panic among the passengers since a similar train fire caused by a passenger resulted in the death of three people including a baby. On April 2, the accused had set his co-passengers on fire onboard the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train when it reached Korapuzha bridge near Elathur in Kozhikode.
