Dr Vandana Das Murder: No Need For CBI Probe, Says Kerala Govt In Assembly

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the police promptly conducted the investigation and submitted a charge sheet to the court without any delay.

The Kerala government in the state Assembly on Wednesday asserted that the investigation into the killing of Dr Vandana Das by a patient was conducted thoroughly by the state police. As a result, the state government said that there was no necessity to transfer the case's investigation to the CBI, as requested by the victim's parents.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the police promptly conducted the investigation and submitted a charge sheet to the court without any delay.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Vijayan noted that the Kerala High Court rejected the plea of the victim's parents for a CBI investigation.

"So, on what basis can the government order a CBI probe?" queried Vijayan to UDF MLA Mons Joseph, who had drawn the Chief Minister's attention to the victim's parents' request for a CBI probe into the case, as per a report on PTI.

Joseph further inquired whether the government would contemplate forming a special squad or team to investigate the allegations made by the parents regarding purported shortcomings in the police investigation. To this, Vijayan responded negatively.

"There is no need for any special squad or team to investigate anything," the CM said, as per the report.

Vijayan also highlighted that to prevent similar incidents in the future, the state government had introduced a comprehensive medico-legal protocol in September of the previous year.

The Kerala High Court, just last week, rejected the parents' request for a CBI investigation into the killing of Dr. Vandana Das by a patient at a taluk hospital in Kollam district in May of the prior year. The court stated that there was no basis to question the integrity or reliability of the police investigation.
