The statement of the Minister has come a day after Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan met Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Indirectly responding to Tamil Nadu on Mekedatu issue, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said that Tamil Nadu should understand that Karnataka was not trying to deny anybody their share of water. The statement of the Minister has come a day after Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan met Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. During the meeting, Duraimurugan reportedly expressed his opposition to constructing a dam at Mekedatu. Duraimurugan said that he explained to the Minister that it was not some ordinary matter but a life issue.

On Mekedatu dam issue, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge said, "The Mekedatu programme is based on the excess water that is flowing into the sea. So, the water that is being wasted is going to be utilised for Bengaluru and few surrounding villages. They should understand that we are not trying to deny anybody their share of water."
