'They Use Hijab To Split Society': Karnataka Minister BC Nagesh On Organisations Supporting Wearing Hijab

Minister Nagesh informed that the Karnataka HC order remains applicable during the interim time

Welcoming the split verdict on hijab ban delivered by the Supreme Court on Thursday, Karnataka School Education Minister BC Nagesh reiterated that the organisations supporting wearing hijab in educational institutions are using hijab to split the society.

"They will always want to split this society. They are using hijab to split the society," news agency ANI said quoting Minister BC Nagesh.

Addressing media after the apex court's verdict, Minister Nagesh informed that the Karnataka HC order remains applicable during the interim time. Earlier in March, the Karnataka HC upheld the state government's order to ban wearing hijab in educational institutions. "We welcome the Supreme Court verdict. We had expected a better judgment as women worldwide are demanding to not wear hijab/burqa. Karnataka HC order remains applicable in interim time; ban on wearing of hijab in educational institutions of the state remains," the education minister added.

Tight Surveillance In Important Areas In Udupi

After the verdict was delivered, the police were beefed up to keep tight surveillance in the Udupi district. Udupi SP, Akshay Hakay said that precautionary measures like police picketing in important areas and continued patrolling have been in place.

Besides, the police have been keeping a close watch on social media to make sure no attempts made to harm existing peace in the society, SP Hakay said.
