Karnataka High Court Declares JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna's Election Invalid

Prajwal is the son of former Karnataka state minister for public works HD Revanna and the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda

Karnataka High Court invalidated the Lok Sabha membership of JDS MP Prajwal Revanna for allegedly filing a false affidavit to Election Commission in 2019 general election. A single bench judge of K Natrajan took the decision on Friday. Prajwal is the son of former Karnataka state minister for public works H. D. Revanna and the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda. Former Karnataka chief minister H. D. Kumaraswamy is his uncle.

According to ANI, "Karnataka High Court has invalidated the Lok Sabha membership of JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, saying that he had filed a false affidavit to the Election Commission in the 2019 general election."

Prajwal Revanna is known for being the third youngest member of parliament in India. Prajwal is a mechanical engineering graduate from Bangalore Institute of Technology.

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Prajwal Revanna won Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka, which was previously held by former prime minister and his grandfather HD Deve Gowda for five terms. After 21 rounds of counting, Prajwal had secured 6,75,512 votes, outnumbering the next closest candidate by 1,42,123 votes.

Deve Gowda gave up his seat to make room for Prajwal in order to aid in the development of the party's youth wing. Prajwal relocated to Hassan to make inroads into the Belur, Hunsur, and Mandya regions.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, concerns over dynasty politics and the JD(S)'s intention to establish Hassan as its stronghold were expressed, said a report on The News Minute.
