National Herald Case: DK Shivakumar To Not Appear Before ED Today, Says 'Have Party Worker's Birthday To Attend'

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar and his MP-brother DK Suresh were summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged money laundering in the National Herald case and were asked to appear before the sleuths on Monday. The Karnataka Congress chief said that he wouldn't be able to appear before ED as he will be participating in a party worker's birthday event.

"I will not appear before ED tomorrow, will be participating in a party worker's birthday event," Shivakumar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Earlier on Saturday, while speaking to the media he said that he would take a decision on whether or not to appear before ED as he is occupied by party national president programs.

“The Investigation Officer (IO) for the National Herald and Young India case has now changed. My brother and I received summons day before yesterday (Thursday) to depose with certain documents on November 7,” he told reporters on Saturday.

On October 7, the probe agency questioned Shivakumar and his brother Suresh for over four hours in connection with alleged money laundering in the Nationa; Herald case.

Shivakumar has had appeared before the ED on September 19 when he was grilled with regard to another money laundering case linked to the alleged possession of disproportionate assets.

Meanwhile, Veteran Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders have been questioned by ED in connection with the National Herald money laundering case.
