Karnataka Voter ID Scam: Congress Demands EC To Scrutinise All 28 Constituencies & Conduct Judicial Inquiry

Karnataka Voter ID Scam: Siddaramaiah also said that the kingpin in this voter ID tampering case is CM Basavaraj Bommai.

Chennai: The Karnataka Congress requested Election Commission (EC) to scrutinise all 28 constituencies in connection with voter ID tampering case on Saturday.

Addressing reporters, Karnataka LoP Siddaramaiah on Congress' voter ID collection allegation said, “EC took our complaint seriously, and that's why they suspended 2 senior IAS officers along with 3 electoral officers of Shivajinagar, Mahadevapura & Chickpet constituencies. This is proof of malpractice.”

“I request EC to scrutinise all 28 constituencies of Bengaluru. Now they (BJP) say that tampering was done in my govt tenure too, then they must conduct a judicial inquiry. There was no complaint in our tenure,” he said.

Siddaramaiah said: “The kingpin in this voter ID tampering case is CM Basavaraj Bommai. Under the supervision of Chief Justice of the Karnataka HC, investigation must be done to keep people's trust intact with the Election Commission.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai said the government is probing the voters' list revision controversy in an impartial manner and any officer or organisation or agency found guilty will be punished.

Talking to reporters after garlanding the statue of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar on Constitution Day here on Saturday, he said several persons are already arrested in this connection and the inquiry of officials is on.

The Election Commission of India has decided to revise the voter's list where deletion of names has occurred and the government will welcome it. The election must be held in a free and fair manner. "We will welcome certain steps such as setting right where the names are deleted purposefully at two or three places despite having the Voter's Identity Card."

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had ordered to review deletions and additions in voters' list and ordered suspension of two additional district election officials on Friday.
