Mother-Son Duo Killed In Bengaluru Metro Pillar Collapse

Two people have died after an under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Bengaluru.

New Delhi: A woman and her son died after an under-construction metro pillar collapsed near Nagavara of the Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru.

Sources close to ABP News informed that the mother-son duo was killed when the pillar containing steel bars collapsed and fell on a two-wheeler travelling on the road during metro construction work in the Karnataka capital Bengaluru.

According to police, the incident took place around 11 am, when the TMT bars erected for the construction of a pillar fell on their scooter. The height of the pillar is said to be over 40 feet and weighing several tonnes, as reported by the news agency PTI. The deceased were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the bystanders.

Two people on a motorbike who were passing by were hit when the Metro pillar fell. Both the injured died in the hospital. FSL and other experts have been called to the incident site, Dr Bheemashankar S Guled, DCP, Bengaluru East told news agency ANI.

Police said they have registered a case and investigation will follow. The incident had resulted in traffic jam for some time along the stretch.
