Hearing to continue on Monday at 2.30 PM

New Delhi: The three-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court hearing the hijab issue asked students on Thursday to not wear any "religious dress", whether hijab or saffron scarves, to colleges until the matter is pending in the court. The next hearing is slated for Monday at 2.30 PM.

"The bench will pass an order directing the opening of the colleges but no student should insist on wearing religious dress when the matter is pending. Hearing to continue on Monday at 2.30 PM," said Karnataka HC as quoted by LiveLaw.

The chief justice said that the three-judge bench is ready to decide the issue at the earliest. But, peace and tranquility should be restored. "Till decision, you should not insist on wearing these religious clothes which are not conducive," said the court as quoted by LiveLaw.

Earlier, Supreme Court has declined to urgently list a plea seeking transfer of petitions filed on the hijab issue from the Karnataka High Court to the apex court.

The top court further said that Karnataka High Court is getting the matter on Thursday, asks why it should interfere at this stage.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the single bench of Justice Krishna Dixit of the Karnataka High Court referred petitions challenging the ban on hijab in pre-university colleges to a three-judge bench, including himself.
