Karnataka Congress Chief DK Shivakumar Conveys Regret Over 'Uncivil Tweet' On PM Modi
Shivakumar took to Twitter to express his regret for a tweet on the state Congress page stating PM as "angootha chhap" meaning "PM is illiterate".
Chennai: Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar on Monday regretted an "uncivil tweet" posted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the official Twitter handle of the Karnataka Congress. The state president said that the tweet stands withdrawn and assured action against the social media manager.
Shivakumar took to Twitter to express his regret for a tweet on the state Congress page stating PM as "angootha chhap" meaning "PM is illiterate".
After the tweet received backlash from BJP, Shivakumar said, "I have always believed that civil and parliamentary language is a non-negotiable pre-requisite for political discourse."
"An uncivil tweet made by a novice social media manager through the Karnataka Congress official Twitter handle is regretted and stands withdrawn," he said.
The tweet which was withdrawn by the Congress, said in Kannada, "The Congress party set up schools in the country but Prime Minister Modi did not go to the school to study. Congress launched schemes for adults to study but Modi didn’t study there too. Even if begging is prohibited, the lazy people have made the country's people as beggars. So, the country is suffering due to #angoothachhampmodi."

The Karnataka Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal also said that the tone of the tweet was unfortunate. She assured that Congress will conduct an inquiry but she also said that she finds no reason to apologize for the tweet.
The political parties of Karnataka are locking horns since the bypolls for the two Assembly constituencies of Karnataka are scheduled on October 30.
