Karnataka: Mysuru Kickboxer Dies After Injury At Bengaluru Event, Organisers Booked For Negligence

Police registered a case of negligence against one Naveen Ravishankar and the Association based on a complaint by Nikhil's father Suresh P, who was also said to be a former kickboxer.

New Delhi: A kickboxer from Mysuru, who had slipped into coma after suffering grievous injury at a kickboxing event in Bengaluru on July 10, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital, news agency PTI reported. The deceased has been identified as Nikhil S. As per the report, an FIR has been registered against the organisers at the Jnana Bharathi police station on the matter.

According to police, the state-level 'K1 Kickboxing championship' was organised at a gym at Jnanajyothi Nagar in the Karnataka capital on July 10 by the Kengeri-based K-1 Kick Boxer Organisation.

Police registered a case of negligence against one Naveen Ravishankar and the Association based on a complaint by Nikhil's father Suresh P, who was also said to be a former kickboxer.

Notably, during the event, Nikhil suffered a major blow from his rival contestant and collapsed inside the boxing ring. He was then immediately rushed to GM Hospital in Nagarabhavi in Bengaluru where he remained in coma for two days and finally succumbed to his injuries on July 12.

As per reports, Nikhil’s mother Vimala said that she had received a call on her mobile phone on July 10 around 6 pm from a person who said that their son had sustained injuries while playing.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the deceased’s father alleged that the mat on the floor was very thin and as Nikhil received the blow, he fell directly on the ground and sustained serious injuries. He further alleged that the organisers did not even provide any first aid when Nikhil was injured and did not have a paramedical unit, oxygen facility or even a stretcher.

The Jnana Bharathi police said that they have registered a case under Section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to causing death by negligence against the organisers and investigations are underway.
