IAS Vs IPS Officer Case: Bengaluru Court Restrains Roopa, Others From Posting 'Defamatory' Remarks Against Rohini

Sindhuri filed an application seeking a restraining order from making defamatory statements on February 21

Days after a bitter tussle between senior women officers in Karnataka came to light, Bengaluru's 74th City Civil Court on Thursday restrained IPS officer Roopa Moudgil and 60 other respondents from making "defamatory statements" against IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri. Besides this, the court alsio issued a notice to all the defendants and postpones the hearing to March 7.

Rohini filed an application seeking a restraining order from making defamatory statements on February 21. The suit came up for hearing before the court on Wednesday. Rohini's advocate sought an injunction restraining the media and Roopa from making and publishing false and defamatory statements against her, said a PTI report.

The court was reportedly told that as per service rules, Rohini, who was the Commissioner for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, has already filed a complaint with the Chief Secretary of the State and also lodged a police complaint against Roopa.

According to PTI, the advocate alleged that Roopa, who was the Managing Director of Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation, had obtained details from mobile phones illegally and released them in the public domain. The suit claimed that the IPS officer had released private photos of Rohini on her Facebook page and also disclosed her mobile number.

In the last few days, allegations have been made by Roopa against Rohini accusing her of several "wrongdoings" and sending her photos to other IAS officers. Terming the allegations as baseless, Rohini alleged that Roopa, who holds a responsible position, is making such comments against her out of personal hatred, and was behaving as if she had lost her mental balance.

With the public spat causing embarrassment, the two officers were transferred without posting by the Government on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Home Minister also warned both officers of legal action.
