After the Home Minister's remarks on Mysuru gangrape, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar slammed the Home Minister for his disrespectful comments and demanded an explanation from senior BJP leaders. "The Home Minister’s remarks showed that women are not free to go out and indicated the BJP leader’s mindset," said Shivakumar, according to The New Indian Express.

Speaking to reporters after facing wrath from opposition about his comments, "A police investigation is underway to nab the culprits. The girl is under medical care at a hospital. Security will be tightened further to ensure the protection of all, especially women," Jnanendra said.

Responding to Home Minister's comments, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai -- who is in Delhi to discuss with the Central government about the water dispute issues between states -- on Wednesday said, "I don't endorse Home Minister's statement. I don't agree with his comment, I've told him to do clarification. That's why I've spoken directly to the police officials and suggested them to report to me directly. I don't agree with whatever statement was made by the Home Minister."
