Karnataka: Man Arrested For Stabbing Woman Over Rejecting Marriage Proposal In Hubballi

The man, identified as Girish alias Vishwa, has been accused of barging into the victim's house and murdering her after she rejected his proposal.

Karnataka police arrested the man who was wanted in the murder of a 20-year-old woman at her residence in Hubballi. The man, identified as Girish alias Vishwa, has been accused of barging into the victim Anjali's house and murdering her after she rejected his proposal.

Hubballi Dharwad Police Commissioner, Renuka Sukumar said, "Accused Girish aka Vishwa has been arrested. He was absconding after stabbing Anjali to death on 15th May. More details awaited."

"He has severe face and head injury for which he needs treatment, after the treatment we will take him into custody for further investigation... He was on his way from Banglore to Goa and from there he wanted to go to Mumbai... He says that the girl has started blocking him and it enraged him, but that's his version which needs to be checked," she said.

The police announced the suspension of Bendigeri Police Inspector Chandrappa Chickkodi and woman constable Rekha Havreddi due to charges of dereliction of duty.

Earlier, Anjali, the victim, had approached Bendigeri police but the cops instead of taking action reportedly sent her back.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a stalker named Girish forcefully entered the victim's residence in Hubballi and fatally stabbed her. Prior to the attack, Girish had threatened the young woman, warning her that she would meet the same fate as Neha Hiremath, who was recently murdered on a college campus in Hubballi.

On Thursday, ABVP workers staged a protest near Chennamma Circle in Hubballi. BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar also launched a scathing attack on the Congress government on Thursday, claiming that the law and order system in Karnataka had collapsed. Shettar called for strict punishment for the killer in Anjali’s case and criticised the police in Hubballi for their inaction, citing a lack of coordination between officers and the government.

Earlier, Neha Hiremath (23), the daughter of a Congress Councillor, was stabbed to death on a university campus in Hubballi by her former classmate.
