One has to transcend personal ambitions: CJI

New Delhi (India), Aug 15 (ANI): Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on Wednesday said that one must transcend personal ambitions and grievances to enhance the performance of the judiciary.

After unfurling the national flag on the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day inside the Supreme Court premises, the CJI said, "To criticise, attack and destroy a system is quite easy. What is difficult and challenging is to transform it into a performing one. For this, one has to transcend personal ambitions or grievances."

"Constructive steps need to be taken with positive mindset. Concrete reforms must be undertaken with rationality, maturity, responsibility, and composure. It is necessary to be productive instead of being counter-productive. Then only the institution can go to greater heights," CJI added.

In an unprecedented move in January, four most senior judges of the Supreme Court aired their grievances regarding the functioning of the apex court. Justices Madan B. Lokur, Kurian Joseph, Ranjan Gogoi and Jasti Chelameswar had addressed a press conference and issued an appeal to the nation to save the Supreme Court. They also released a letter that they had written to the Chief Justice of India highlighting the mismanagement within the top judicial institution. (ANI)
