Mitti, a light tale on a hard topic

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 1 (ANI): In a situation where 3.2 lakhs farmers have committed suicide in the last 20 years, Mitti, a documentary, is made on farmer issues and majorly talks of farmer suicides in India.

The movie,directed by Anshul Sinha shows solutions in an entertaining way to reach out to common man.

He said, "The film talks of Agriculture crisis in India and farmer suicides. We did a lot of research work under Center for Sustainable Agriculture.

To write the screen play of the film, we have technically learnt agriculture science and farming. We thought of making a documentary film but changed our mind as they leave less impact in audience compared to fiction."

The film portrays 25 major issues pushing farming into crisis.

While talking about the technical aspects of the film, he said, "The challenging part was to show these issues in form of drama for which we have to understand and feel it first. We visited four states Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which are our suicide belts of our country. We learnt seed testing, herbicide testing and vegetable testing for the film."

Sandeep Yadav, a theatre artist who plays the lead in the movie, said, "The only reason I accepted the role was farmer suicide and how they are facing problems. I felt this very relevant. I was offered a farmer role in which I would suffer and fight these issues. It was a challenging role."

The film aims at saving every farmer from giving up farming and their life and making others realise what is wrong with our approach to farming today and what are the possible ways out. (ANI)
