Cong asks PM Modi not to forget China's betrayal history ahead of 9th BRICS Summit

New Delhi [India], August 30 (ANI): The Congress party, in regard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China for 9th BRICS Summit next week, said that the Centre should not forget China's history of betrayals.

"Prime Minister's visit to China for BRICS summit was preplanned. There's was a standoff in Doklam for almost 70 days. The Indian Government time and again sad that they will resolve the issue with talks and things happened accordingly. But one thing needs to be kept in mind that China is an untrustworthy neighbour. Even history says so. So whatever decision Indian Government takes, they should also keep it in mind," told senior Congress leader PL Punia to ANI.

Senior advocate and Congress leader K.T.S. Tulsi, speaking on the same, told ANI, "What is to be put forward in the BRICS Summit will be decided by the Government. What I have to say is that we need to thank our stars that we have been saved from the problem that was brewing at Doklam."

At the invitation of the President of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Xiamen in China's Fujian province during September 3-5 to attend the ninth BRICS Summit, said a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) statement on Tuesday.

This comes a day after India and China agreed to end their over two-month-long stand-off in the Doklam Plateau by reaching an understanding not to let their long standing differences become disputes.

India-China stand-off at Doklam, near the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan trijunction, had been going on for more than two months and the situation arose after China started constructing a road in the area.

India objected to the road construction after the Chinese troops ignored Bhutanese protests, triggering a face-off on June 16. (ANI)
