G20 Summit: PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks With Kishida, Sunak, Pledges To Boost Trade Ties, Connectivity

PM Narendra Modi met his Japanese and British counterparts Fumio Kishida and Rishi Sunak, and discussed their engagements on the economic front and other sectors.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Japanese and British counterparts Fumio Kishida and Rishi Sunak respectively on the sidelines of the annual G20 Summit in New Delhi on Saturday. The leaders demonstrated their resolve to deepen the bilateral relationship on the economic front as well as explore engagements in other spaces and sectors.

On his bilateral meet with the Japanese Prime Minister, PM Modi said the two leaders held a discussion on the ground covered under India’s G20 and Japan’s G7 Presidency.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi posted, “Held productive talks with PM @kishida230. We took stock of India-Japan bilateral ties and the ground covered during India's G20 Presidency and Japan's G7 Presidency. We are eager to enhance cooperation in connectivity, commerce and other sectors.”

It is to be noted that Japan is a key contributor to India’s flagship bullet train project and also shares deep commercial ties with New Delhi.

Speaking about his meeting with the British Prime Minister, PM Modi said that the two leaders pledged to deepen trade linkages and boost investment.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Great to have met PM @RishiSunak on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Delhi. We discussed ways to deepen trade linkages and boost investment. India and UK will keep working for a prosperous and sustainable planet.”

Earlier in the day, addressing the inaugural session of the global conclave, PM Modi welcomed the President of the Union of Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Azali Assoumani to take seat at the G20 table.

“Honoured to welcome the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 Family. This will strengthen the G20 and also strengthen the voice of the Global South,” PM Narendra Modi tweeted.
