India@2047 — Tracking A Rising, Resurging, Reinventing India

For the readers of ABP Live, India@2047 will bring stories of achievements and possible setbacks, analyse new decisions and policies, dissect challenges and disruptions, and look for solutions.

Seventy five years ago, when we became independent, the country had a dream: to make a peaceful, prosperous and progressive India. Freedom brought along power and responsibility, and this land of diversity started a striving journey towards fulfilling that dream, ready to accept all seen and unseen challenges of the future. From that young country of 34 crore, we have now become a nation of 138 crore people belonging to different castes, religions, beliefs and cultures living together in a thriving democracy.

“That future is not one of ease or resting but of incessant striving…,” first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said in his famous ‘Tryst with destiny’ speech on the intervening night of August 14 and August 15, 1947. And ‘incessant striving’ has it been as we aspired, sometimes tumbled, surged ahead, and faltered too, but kept that dream alive and broadened our horizons. The India that started off 75 years ago as a so-called “poor” third world country after centuries of foreign rule and plunder is now a success story that the world reads for inspiration.

From a country seen as a pauper to one aspiring to become a $5 trillion economy, the 75-year post-Independence history has been scripted with grit, resilience, ambition, and confidence. We braved multiple wars, natural disasters, political instabilities, pandemics, and also the economic challenges that came with and without these setbacks. But we were able to make giant strides in all spheres — from education to health, agriculture to science and technology, social welfare to foreign relations, economy to philanthropy, and entertainment to sports — finding opportunities in the adversities.

But as we bask in the glory of the past, it is also important to examine the present, and plan for the future. Where will India be 25 years from now, when it turns 100? What vision do we have for the India of 2047? An India that aspires to become a Vishwaguru and global powerhouse, attaining new heights of prosperity by ensuring overall rural and urban growth, emerging from the effects of the pandemic.
