Ideas of India 2025: Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu reflected on her journey, the battle between theatrical and OTT releases, and the changes she hopes to bring to the industry at ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit 2025. In the engaging session "Fearless and Feisty," moderated by Chitra Tripathi, Taapsee shared bold insights on "Telling Powerful Stories," making it a must-watch conversation.
During the session, Taapsee Pannu also addressed Kirti Kulhari’s revelations about feeling overlooked during the promotions of their 2016 film Pink.
Taapsee's reaction to Pink co-star Kirti Kulhari's comments about her PR
Reacting to Kirti’s statements, Taapsee shared, “She shared what she felt. From my perspective, I didn't see anything that suggested she had a problem or was troubled. This is her personal viewpoint, and I would never comment on what she has been through."
She continued, "A woman in this industry goes through a lot, especially if she comes from a system. So many things happen to her that it's hard to predict what might hurt her or which words might affect her. I cannot feel what she has felt, so I would never say what she felt was wrong. She is expressing it because she truly felt that way.”
What Kirti said about Taapsee's PR
Kirti Kulhari, who delivered a powerful performance in Pink alongside Taapsee and Amitabh Bachchan, recently opened up about feeling sidelined during the film’s promotional activities. Despite playing a significant role, she felt the promotional focus primarily highlighted Taapsee and Mr. Bachchan, leaving her disheartened.
In an interview with Fever FM, Kirti shared, “When Pink happened, for me, there was never a thought, ‘Who is big or small’ in terms of their status in the industry. I was like it is a story of three girls. That’s how I saw it. I came from a space where I believed ‘We are all actors. We are all together’. But Pink made me feel a lot of ‘big star-small star’ treatment. The people around you make you feel that way.”
She further recalled her reaction to the film’s trailer, stating, “I saw the trailer was mainly filled with Taapsee and Mr. Bachchan. That was the first jhatka for me because I know what I have done in the film. Shoojit was like, ‘Don’t worry about it, let the film come out.’ I never do PR.”
Kirti explained how the PR machinery primarily worked for Taapsee, saying, “During the promotions, the PR machinery happened for Taapsee because she came after Mr. Bachchan (in terms of hierarchy) in that film. Eventually, it became her film, and she became the Pink girl in terms of positioning, and I saw that happening in front of me. This was the first shocker for me because I couldn’t understand this.”
She also revealed that she chose not to attend award functions where she was nominated as a supporting actress, as she didn’t consider herself in that category. “My PR game was zero. It shook me,” Kirti admitted.
Addressing how this impacted her bond with Taapsee, Kirti added, “I think from her side, she didn’t notice this. She has been nice to me, but that whole PR game, I took it a little personally.”
