On the topic of Indian business leaders Goenka admires outside of his family, Goenka named Mukesh Ambani.

Ideas Of India 2025: At the ABP Network Ideas of India 2025 summit, Shashwat Goenka, Vice Chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, shared his admiration for two of the world’s most influential business leaders — Elon Musk and Mukesh Ambani. In a session titled "The Next Generation," moderated by renowned journalist and writer Vir Sanghvi, Goenka delved into leadership, vision, and the importance of conviction in business.

Admiring Elon Musk’s Conviction

When asked which global business personality he respected the most, Goenka’s immediate response was Elon Musk.

“What I really like about him is the courage of conviction that he has on his ideas. He also has the innate ability to execute those ideas, even if they don’t align with popular perception or culture. That strong conviction is something I truly look up to,” Goenka said.

Mukesh Ambani’s Vision & Precision

On the topic of Indian business leaders he admires outside of his family, Goenka named Mukesh Ambani, praising his ability to build on his father’s legacy while maintaining a meticulous approach to execution.

“He inherited what Dhirubhai had built, but he has a far-reaching vision and an extraordinary precision in execution. No matter what he decides to do, he does it fabulously and meticulously, down to the smallest detail,” Goenka noted.

Beyond business acumen, Goenka also highlighted Ambani’s humility. “Despite everything, he remains affectionate and respectful to absolutely everyone. I really respect his ability to think big, not just for today but for years ahead, and then execute those plans seamlessly.”

On Work-Life Balance

Goenka also touched upon the importance of balancing work and personal life, emphasising productivity over long hours. “It’s crucial to recognise that there are times when extra effort is needed, but ultimately, it’s not about the number of hours worked — it’s about how productive you are during that time,” he said.
