Ideas of India 2025: 'It Is Not About The Number Of Hours, But..', Says Shashwat Goenka On Work-Life Balance

“When you look at the young Indian consumers today, they want instant gratification and the aspiration levels of consumers have risen a lot," said Vice Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group

Shashwat Goenka, Vice Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group said on Friday that the Indian consumer is unlike any consumer in the world. Globally a country has a very homogeneous taste of consumers. However, in India consumers' tastes and preferences change every 100 km and that is what makes India unique.

“When you look at the young Indian consumers today, they want instant gratification and the aspiration levels of consumers have risen a lot. And they are willing to pay the extra amount to live that aspiration today versus saving it up for an aspirational future,” noted Goenka while speaking at the ABP Network Ideas of India Summit on Friday.

Talking about the changing consumer patterns in the food business, he highlighted that the way that people buy has changed from going to a typical local Kirana store to a modern trade store or e-commerce. "Today it is not about how available you are when it comes to the food business but through how many touch points you can connect with the consumer,” he said.

"Earlier, an average household would order groceries about 12 times a month. Today, a typical family of four living in a Tier 1 city places around 10 orders every Sunday on a quick commerce app. So that’s how the things have changed,” he added.

He added that the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group is investing everywhere around the world and creating businesses globally.

Speaking about work-life balance, he Highlighted the importance of having both. "It's also crucial to recognise that there are times when you need to put in extra work. Ultimately, it's not about the number of hours you work, but how productive you are during that time."
