ABP Ideas Of India: Sonam Wangchuk To Speak On Ways To Build A Sustainable Society
The ABP Network's 'Ideas of India Summit' will see Sonam Wangchuk in discussion with actress Gul Panag on the topic 'A Sustainable Society; Managing Nature's Backlash: Recycle, Reuse and Renew'.
New Delhi: With reports warning of multiple climate change-induced disasters in the next two decades in India, the government has made "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover" its new mantra to combat climate change and move towards sustainability.
To tackle climate change, India has firmed up a slew of strategies as pledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Glasgow climate summit in November.
PM Modi has said India can meet 50% of its energy requirements by increasing its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030. India has also pledged to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070, a commitment lauded by many climate experts.
What steps should India take to achieve a sustainable society? How should the government go about tackling climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions?
These questions and more will be answered by innovator and Magsaysay awardee Sonam Wangchuk, the man who inspired Vidhu Vinod Chopra's movie '3 Idiots'.
The ABP Network's "Wildstone presents Ideas of India Summit" will see Sonam Wangchuk in discussion with actress Gul Panag on the topic "A Sustainable Society; Managing Nature's Backlash: Recycle, Reuse and Renew".
Watch the session LIVE on abplive.com on March 25 at 11.30 am.
A mechanical engineer by education, Wangchuk has been mostly working in the field of education reform for more than 30 years. In 1988, he founded SECMOL (Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh) with the aim of supporting Ladakhi children and youth. He has also brought in a host of measures to solve the water crisis facing mountainous regions due to climate change and fast melting glaciers.
ABP Network is hosting its first 'Ideas of India' Summit, which will take place in Mumbai on March 25-26. The best minds from various fields will talk about India's 75-year journey and the future it holds.
