Opinion: Hey New Mammas, Here Are 4 Tips To Show Some Self-Love As You Nurture Your Little Ones

Balanced meals and adequate sleep are among the goals to strive for in the early days of your motherhood journey.

It can be tough for women to focus on their health in the early days of motherhood, even as the weight gained during pregnancy becomes a factor of stress for many new mothers. However, it is crucial to take proactive steps by making necessary modifications in your daily lifestyle, without getting carried away with the pressure to “bounce back”. Here are four simple tips to exercise self-love post-partum that will help you on this journey.

Start Slow With Exercise: Begin your weight-loss journey by being physically active. Instead of starting with intense exercises like gym or strength training, try gentle and low-impact activities like walking or postnatal yoga. Ensure that you consult your doctor before starting your workout regimen.

Eat Balanced Meals: Focus on eating foods that are rich in essential nutrients for speedy recovery post-partum. Avoid skipping meals or crash diets as they can negatively affect your health, energy levels, and, most importantly, breastmilk.

Stay Hydrated: Being hydrated can be helpful in losing excessive weight after the delivery. It can help your body recover early while boosting your metabolism. Drink plenty of fluids along with water, like vegetable or fruit juice, coconut water, or smoothies. It can also help you stay full for a longer duration.

Get Enough Sleep: Not getting enough sleep after delivery is common for new mothers, but it can take a toll on their physical well-being. Inconsistent sleeping patterns can affect your weight-loss hormones. Please make sure that you take rest whenever possible.

If you are unable to lose your post-partum weight even after continuous efforts, then it is a sign for you to consult your doctor immediately. Your doctor may assess your condition to understand why. It can be an indication of various underlying health issues, which can become problematic if neglected.
