Omicron Cases In India Near 5,000-Mark, Covid Cases Up By 15.8% In Last 24 Hours | Check State Wise List

Maharashtra continues to have the highest no. of Omicron cases standing at 1281. Delhi has been toppled by Rajasthan at the 2nd spot as it recorded 645 omicron cases, while Delhi reported 546 cases.

New Delhi: India reported fresh 1,94,720 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. This is 15.8 percent higher than the number of cases reported the previous day. There are 4,868 confirmed cases of Omicron reported in the last 24 hours in India. Out of the total omicron cases in India, 1805 have recovered.

Maharashtra continues to have the highest number of Omicron cases standing at 1281. Delhi has been toppled by Rajasthan at the second spot as it recorded 645 omicron cases, while Delhi reported 546 omicron cases.

As many as 442 deaths and 60,405 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The recoveries in the last 24 hours bring the total number of recoveries in India to 3,46,30,536.  The daily positivity and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 11.05 percent and 9.82 percent respectively.
On Tuesday, there was a rise in Covid-19 cases in several states across the country. In West Bengal, 21,098 more people tested positive. As a result, the number of active cases crossed the 1-lakh mark.

As many as 15,379 new cases were reported in Tamil Nadu.

Kerala reported 9,066 fresh Covid-19 infections.

Delhi mandated work from home in private offices, excepting people belonging to the exempted category.

It reported 21, 259 new cases and 23 fatalities on Tuesday. This marks the highest number of deaths in the national capital since June 16, 2021.

As many as 69.52 crore tests have been conducted so far. The number of vaccine doses administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive is 153.80 crore.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territorries asking them to take immediate measures to ensure optimal availability of medical oxygen at health facilities, ANI reported. 

In his letter dated January 11, Bhushan has said that states and Union Territories should have a buffer stock of medical oxygen sufficient for at least 48 hours at health facilities providing in-patient care. He has asked to ensure proper functioning of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) plants and availability of sufficient oxygen concentrators.
