No Paracetamol Or Painkillers Recommended After Being Vaccinated With Covaxin: Bharat Biotech

New Delhi: No paracetamol or painkillers are recommended after being vaccinated with Covaxin, Bharat Biotech said in an official statement. The announcement comes after the firm received feedback that certain immunisation centres are recommending taking 3 paracetamol (500 mg) tablet along with Covaxin for children.

Thus, the pharma company said that there is no need to take such drugs after or before getting vaccinated.

"Through our clinical trials spanning 30,000 individuals, approximately 10-20% of individuals report side effects. Most of these are mild, resolve within 1-2 days, and do not require medication. Medication is only recommended after you consult a physician," the statement by Bharat Biotech read.

The company also said that paracetamol was recommended along with certain other Covid-19 vaccines and is not recommended for Covaxin.

Symptoms such as temporary arm soreness, fever, muscle aches or other symptoms of inflammation are common among people after taking Covid-19 vaccine.

A report published in Associated Press dated July 20, 2021 states that concern about painkillers is that they might curb the very immune system response that a vaccine aims to spur.

Vaccines work by tricking the body into thinking it has a virus and mounting a defense against it. Several reports suggest that painkillers might diminish the immune system’s response and lower the production of antibodies, which block the virus from infecting cells.
