Delhi confirmed its first case of monkeypox on July 24 this year, a day after it was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization.

The first case of monkeypox in India was reported from Kerala's Kollam district on July 14.

According to the World Health Organization, monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals), with symptoms similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is found to be clinically less severe.
