Bengal Govt Forms 8-Member Task Force To Monitor Adenovirus Cases

The task force will monitor the Adenovirus cases as well as the treatment of the affected persons in the different hospitals of the state.

New Delhi: The West Bengal government constituted an eight-member task force on Sunday headed by chief secretary to supervise Adenovirus cases in the state, reported news agency ANI. The task force will monitor the Adenovirus cases as well as the treatment of the affected persons in the different hospitals of the state.

"In order to supervise the works related to the control of Adenovirus and treatment of affected persons, a task force is hereby constituted with immediate effect,” said the Bengal government in an official order from the Chief Secretary. 

The seven other members of the task force include Alapan Bandopadhyay, the chief advisor to HCM; the Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare department, the Principal Secretary of the Women and Child Development department, the director of health services in the state, the director of medical services in the state, Dr Sukumar Mukherjee and Dr Gopal Krishna Dhali, the order stated. 

"The task force will meet at several intervals and supervise/oversee the arrangements for the treatment of affected persons in different hospitals and other aspects related with control of the disease," the order added.

On Thursday, a team from the National Commission for Protection of Children Rights (NCPCR) as the tally of deaths of children getting admitted to hospitals with Adenovirus-type syndromes increased in the state. 

In the wake of increasing incidents of the infection, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee After reviewing the situation both expressed satisfaction over the treatment and the infrastructure facilities at the paediatric division of the hospitals where they made surprise visits. According to IANS, both claimed that the rate of admission with severe symptoms has been on a decline in the last few days. The two hospitals were Calcutta Medical College & Hospital and BC Roy Children's Hospital.
