PlayStation State Of Play June 2022 Major Announcements: Resident Evil 4 Remake, Spider-Man On PC, More

Horizon Call of the Mountain looks to showcase PSVR2 capabilities like never before.

Sony made a series of announcements at the PlayStation State of Play presentation on June 2. From a remake of the cult classic Resident Evil 4 to a PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man, the Japanese gaming giant offered enough reasons to keep gamers hooked for months to come. Fans also got a peek into much-awaited titles such as Final Fantasy XVI and Street Fighter 6, along with a couple of PlayStation VR2 announcements. Here’s a quick roundup of all major announcements made by Sony during its 30-minute-long presentation.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Arguably the greatest horror game of all time, Resident Evil 4 is finally getting a remake. If the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are anything to go by, the upcoming release is sure to impress even the most hardcore fans of the franchise. The remake will have some changes to the original storyline, so it would be interesting to see how that unfolds. RE4 Remake will also offer PSVR2 content in the future. Resident Evil 4 Remake is set to release on the PS5 on March 23, 2023.

Spider-Man Remastered on PC

Everyone’s favourite webhead will swing into PCs soon, as the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will make its debut on the platform on August 12. It will feature the main campaign as well as The City That Never Sleeps expansion. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be making its way to PC later this year, Sony announced.

Final Fantasy XVI

Fans were treated to an official trailer of the next installment in Square Enix’s fantasy RPG series. Set to release on the PS5 in summer 2023, Final Fantasy XVI will have a very different combat style as compared to the previous games, relying heavily on a fresh cinematic treatment for main battles. You can check out the nearly three-minute-long trailer below.

Street Fighter 6

One of the greatest arcade fighters of time, Street Fighter fans will be treated to a whole new adventure in 2023, as Street Fighter 6 is set to release on PS4 and PS5. Armed with a new art style that makes everything slightly more realistic, Street Fighter 6 will offer free-roaming gameplay as well. It will be interesting to see how that pans out in this classic title.

The Callisto Protocol

Developed by Glen Schofield of the Dead Space series, The Callisto Protocol looks to be a genuinely scary survival game — a rare one at that. Lately, most horror games appear to have ditched nail-biting suspense with gun-cocking action (we’re looking at you, Resident Evil Village). However, everything about The Callisto Protocol screams horror. It is set to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X on December 2.

Horizon Call of the Mountain

Horizon Zero Dawn introduced us to a wonderfully engaging post-apocalyptic world and mammoth machine monsters back in 2017. Its 2022 sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, amped everything up to the max, going on to become one of the best games of the year so far. Now, fans will be treated to a whole new way to explore the world of Horizon with Call of the Mountain, thanks to the PSVR2. From a newcomer-friendly mode called River Ride to giving players control of the trusty bow to take out robot dinosaurs, Horizon Call of the Mountain may go on to become one of the most exciting VR games of all time.

Apart from the above, PSVR2 will also get content on games like Resident Evil Village, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2, and No Man’s Sky soon.

Additionally, the much-awaited cyberpunk cat platformer, Stray, finally got a release date. It is set to release on the PS4 and PS5 on July 19.
