Assassin's Creed Finds Its Hidden Blade At Netflix With Live-Action Series: What We Know So Far

Netflix has greenlit a live-action Assassin’s Creed series with Roberto Patino and David Wiener at the helm. The show revisits the Templars vs Assassins conflict.

Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action Assassin’s Creed series, ending years of speculation. Collaborating closely with Ubisoft, the streamer has appointed Roberto Patino and David Wiener, known for their work on Halo, Westworld, and Fear the Walking Dead as showrunners, creators and executive producers. They will be leading a retelling of the franchise’s iconic conflict between Assassins and Templars, blending historical settings, parkour action and moral exploration.

Story And Production Details

The series will depict the ongoing secret war between two shadowy factions: one seeking control and manipulation of humanity’s future, the other fighting to preserve free will. Drawing inspiration from familiar video game arcs, particularly those of Ezio Auditore, the show promises a mix of spectacle and human story.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, according to Patino and Wiener: “Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story; about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith". They emphasised that while the series will explore “power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance,” its core is “about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time.” Ubisoft Film & Television will executive produce alongside the Netflix team.

New Chapter For A Beloved Franchise

This marks Netflix’s first live-action collaboration with Ubisoft, building on prior animated adaptation successes such as Rabbids Invasion and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. While Netflix has seen hits like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, its live-action adaptations have been mixed.

The Assassin’s Creed series comes after nearly five years in development since initial talks in 2020 and replaces earlier attributions, including a 2021 attachment of writer Jeb Stuart. Now, Patino, whose credits include Zero Day and DMZ and Wiener, showrunner of Halo Season 2 and writer on Fear the Walking Dead, are steering the project forward.

Netflix plans to weave Assassin’s Creed’s hallmark historic and modern-day narratives into a dramatic live-action format, spotlighting fan‑favourite themes like parkour, hidden identities and multigenerational intrigue. Fans will no doubt be watching closely to see if the show lives up to the immersive standards set by the games.
