Fact Check: That's Actor Ajith Kumar, And Not Bill Clinton, At PV Sindhu’s Wedding Reception

A video being shared on social media falsely claimed that former US President Bill Clinton attended PV Sindhu's wedding.

New Delhi, December 26 (Vaidehi Jahagirdar / Abhinav Gupta, PTI Fact Check): A video was recently shared on social media with the claim that it showed former US President Bill Clinton attending the wedding festivities of star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Hyderabad-based Executive Director at Posidex Technologies, Venkata Datta Sai. However, the PTI Fact Check Desk's investigation found that person claimed to be Clinton was actually Tamil actor Ajith Kumar. The video was from Sindhu’s wedding reception held in Hyderabad on December 24. 

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu embarked on a new journey in life as she tied the knot with entrepreneur Venkata Datta Sai in a private ceremony in Udaipur on December 22. 

Claim

An X (formerly Twitter) user shared on December 24 a video claiming that it showed former US President Bill Clinton attending PV Sindhu and Venkata Datta Sai's wedding in Hyderabad. The post has garnered over 751k views so far.

Investigation

The Desk ran the viral video through InVid Tool Search and found several keyframes. On running one of the keyframes through Google Lens, the Desk found an Instagram video posted by entertainment website 'Pinkvilla South', on December 25.

The video matched the viral clip and was captioned as "Thala Ajith and his family join the celebrations at PV Sindhu and Venkat’s reception." 
Reportedly, the Tamil superstar is widely referred to as Thala by his fans.

In the next part of investigation, the Desk made a customised keyword search on Google and came across a report by the India Today, which confirmed that the person in the viral video was Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar. 

According to India Today report, published on December 25, "Ajith Kumar, his wife Shalini, and their two children, Anoushka and Aadvik, attended the wedding reception of badminton player PV Sindhu in Hyderabad on December 24."

Subsequently, the Desk concluded that the man in the video, claimed to be former US President Bill Clinton, was actually Tamil actor Ajith. 

CLAIM

Former US President Bill Clinton attended wedding festivities of star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu.

FACT

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar was misidentified as Bill Clinton.

CONCLUSION

Multiple social media users shared a video claiming that it showed former US President Bill Clinton at the wedding festivities of Indian shuttler PV Sindhu. The Desk found in its investigation that the man in the video was Tamil actor Ajith, and not Clinton. The video was shared on social media with a false claim.
