Satish Kaul Death: Mahabharat's Indradev & Veteran Hindi-Punjabi Actor Passes Away Due To COVID-19

Veteran actor Satish Kaul died due to Coronavirus at the age of 72.

Veteran actor Satish Kaul, fondly known for playing the role of Devraj Indra in BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’, passed away on Saturday (April 10) in Ludhiana. He was 72. The talented, who featured in Hindi and Punjabi films, was admitted to in Ludhiana’s Sri Rama Charitable Trust Hospital a few ago when he tested positive for COVID-19.

Satya Devi, who has been taking care of Satish Kaul, since the last few years, confirmed the news over phone. She told ABP News that Kaul’s funeral would be performed in Ludhiana on Sunday.

Satish Kaul worked in nearly 300 Hindi and Punjabi films. Some of his popular serials include 'Mahabharata', 'Circus' and 'Vikram Betal' he went through a rough phase in his life as he was battling with in sickness and financial crisis. He was forced to live in a small house in Ludhiana and had to struggle to pay rent and buy his medicines every month during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The veteran actor was admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh after he suffered a hip bone fracture in Patiala in 2015. He was not able to recover from the injury till his death. He couldn’t walk properly after suffering the fracture. He was hospitalized for two-and-a-half years following which he shifted to an old-age home and lived there for one-and-a-half years.

Kaul sold his flat in Mumbai’s Versova for Rs 2.5 lakh to arrange funds for the cancer treatment of his parents 25 years ago. The actor used the remaining amount for his younger sister’s wedding. Satish opened an acting school in partnership with someone in Ludhiana but the actor incurred losses of over Rs 20 lakh.

Satish, while exclusively talking to ABP News in 2020, had said, "It’s not that I didn’t get any sort of help from people after losing everything and getting sick. The state government provided me Rs 5 lakh as financial aid. The money was spent on my treatment and medicines."

Satish Kaul got divorced from his wife after a year of their marriage. His wife remarried and went to Durban with their son. Satya Devi, who calls herself a fan of the actor, took care of him since the past seven years. People questioned the relationship of Kaul and Devi, a mother of four children, but the latter never paid heed and continued to take care of him. She didn’t leave his side till his last breathe.
