Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Returns: Amar Upadhyay Reveals How Tulsi And Mihir’s Love Story Has Evolved

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set for a much-awaited comeback — and fan favourites Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay will reprise their iconic roles as Tulsi and Mihir Virani.

Seventeen years after it first became a household obsession, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set for a much-awaited comeback — and fan favourites Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay will reprise their iconic roles as Tulsi and Mihir Virani. In a recent chat with The Times of India, Amar opened up about what fans can expect from the reboot and admitted that the makers are feeling “a different kind of pressure” this time around.

Amar Upadhyay on Bringing Back Mihir and Tulsi

Amar candidly shared that he hadn’t expected the classic show to still strike a chord with today’s viewers, considering the vast amount of new-age content available. However, he was pleasantly surprised to see that people across generations are still enthusiastic about the beloved soap.

Giving insights into the upcoming season, Amar said, “The story justifies the return of each character and how their relationships have evolved. The love between Mihir and Tulsi has matured. We’ve all grown as people and actors, and that shows in the story.”

Fans will remember Mihir’s dramatic exit and comeback from the dead in the original series. This time, Amar assured fans that his character is here for the long haul: “Mihir is here to stay, right until the final episode.”

Reuniting with Smriti Irani After 15 Years

The new season will also mark Smriti Irani’s big return to acting after a 15-year hiatus, during which she became one of India’s most influential political figures. Amar revealed that despite her stature, Smriti remains exactly the same person he knew on set decades ago.

Talking about their reunion, he said, “When I met her at Ekta Kapoor’s house, it felt like no time had passed. We were just the same. She joked, ‘Tu boodha kab hoga?’ and I said, ‘Abhi time hai’ (laughs). She’s always been grounded, and that hasn’t changed one bit. Our interaction was exactly how it used to be 25 years ago.”

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Returns

First aired in 2000 under Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms banner, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi quickly became a cultural milestone, running successfully on Star Plus for eight years and spanning over 1,800 episodes.

The iconic show’s revival promises to blend nostalgia with a fresh narrative, bringing Tulsi, Mihir, and the Virani family back to prime time — much to the delight of long-time fans and a new generation of viewers.
