Television actor Gurucharan Singh, known for his portrayal of Roshan Singh Sodhi in the hit sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was hospitalised on January 7 in critical condition. According to his close friend Bhakti Soni, Gurucharan had stopped eating since May 2024, following his return home.

Bhakti Soni says she got Gurucharan Singh worth ₹13 lakh

In a conversation with Times Entertainment, Bhakti shared that a turning point came when she secured a brand endorsement for the actor. “I have got Gurucharan Singh a brand deal worth ₹13 lakh, which has been given to him. After that, he agreed to break his fast. He will be coming to Mumbai by the end of the month to shoot for the same,” she revealed.

Bhakti was disappointed with Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah team

Despite her efforts to support him, Bhakti expressed disappointment over the lack of financial assistance for Gurucharan during his health crisis. She mentioned that while members of the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah team inquired about his condition, no monetary help was offered. “Nobody asked if he needed any financial help,” she said.

Bhakti also said that Gurucharan’s primary need was work, which she successfully managed to secure for him. She remains optimistic about his recovery and return to the industry.

The actor’s health struggles were compounded by severe dehydration. Bhakti disclosed that Gurucharan had refrained from drinking water for nearly 19 days, leading to extreme weakness and eventual hospitalisation after he lost consciousness.

Jennifer Mistry on Singh's financial trouble

Earlier, Jennifer Mistry, who played Singh’s wife in the show, told Zoom, “Gurucharan Singh had once asked me to help him with Rs 1 lakh to clear his credit card dues. I agreed to give it to him, but he later told me that he didn’t want it right now. He told me, ‘I will let you know once I need it.’ Later, he didn’t call me. After a few days, he asked me for Rs 17 lakh. Unfortunately, I had to use that Rs 1 lakh for my personal due to some financial crunch. I had also told him that I didn’t have this much amount. I couldn’t help him," she said.

Gurucharan played Roshan in 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' until 2012 but returned in 2013 due to his fans' demand. He finally left the show in 2020 when Balwinder Singh Suri replaced him.
