Rishab Shetty Clarifies Controversial Remark 'Bollywood Shows India In A Bad Light'
Rishab Shetty addressed his viral statement at the IIFA Utsavam, saying it was misunderstood and that he would soon offer a full explanation.
New Delhi: Kannada actor and director Rishab Shetty ignited controversy after criticising Bollywood for presenting "India in a bad light" at foreign film festivals. Rishab Shetty made this remark when he was asked why Indian film wasn't being favourably exhibited in the world arena in an interview with MetroSaga. His comments received a lot of flak after going viral, particularly from those who favour Bollywood.
Rishab Shetty said while speaking in Kannada during the interview, “Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language—my pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that’s what I try to do.”
Rishab Shetty’s Clarification
Risabh Shetty addressed the controversy surrounding his words while walking the green carpet at the IIFA Utsavam 2024. By saying, "Main kya bola tha wo thoda idhar udhar ho gaya," he made it clear that his remarks had been misunderstood. He said he would elaborate on this in a more conducive environment, “Clarification or explanation aagey main ek achi si jagah baith kar baat karenge (I will sit at a good place and talk about clarification and explanation later)".
Shetty received recognition at the IIFA Utsavam for his "Outstanding Excellence in Kannada Cinema." This honour adds to his outstanding collection of honours, which also includes a recent National Film Award for his role in the highly acclaimed film ‘Kantara’.
Risabh Shetty’s Work
While Rishab Shetty's 2016 debut film ‘Ricky’ brought him considerable acclaim, it was his performance in the 2022 film ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ that took him to the next level. The highly anticipated sequel, ‘Kantara 2’ is something that fans are looking forward to. With a cast that includes Shetty's comeback as director and main actor and Ajaneesh Loknath's return as music director, this prequel will delve into Panchurli Deiva's legend during the Kadamba period.
