Australian cricketer David Warner, known for his admiration of Indian cinema—especially Allu Arjun’s films—is all set to step into the world of Telugu cinema. While many anticipated that his big-screen debut would be alongside Arjun, Warner has instead landed a role in an upcoming project helmed by director Venky Kudumula.
The news was officially confirmed by producer Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movies during an event in Hyderabad. Speaking to the audience, he disclosed that Warner will be making a special cameo in the much-anticipated film ‘Robinhood’, starring Nithiin and Sreeleela.
Producer Ravi Shankar on David Warner's cameo
During the event, when asked to share some inside details about the film, Ravi Shankar initially hesitated but eventually spilled the beans. “There’s someone making a cameo in this film. I don’t know if I should reveal it. David Warner has played a small role. I am sorry, Venky. I had to reveal it without your permission because they insisted. His character will be very exciting. I feel proud we’re launching him in Indian cinema, that too with Robinhood,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Speculations around Warner's Indian film debut
Warner’s involvement in Indian cinema was first hinted at last year when Australian media outlets shared images of him shooting for an undisclosed project. In September, he was spotted filming scenes in Melbourne, dressed in a crisp white shirt. Reports from 7News described a sequence where Warner exited a helicopter, walked confidently with a lollipop in hand, and later brandished a golden gun in a standoff with armed goons.
At the time, speculation was rife about whether Warner was shooting for an Indian film. His previous association with Indian cinema, including an advertisement shoot with 'Baahubali' director SS Rajamouli in April, only fueled the excitement. Many fans had hoped that his debut would be in 'Pushpa 2: The Rule', which was released in December.
