Despite facing heavy criticism for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, Diljit Dosanjh’s horror-comedy ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ is winning hearts across the border. Released on June 27, 2025, the film skipped Indian theatres due to ongoing political tensions but opened to strong box office numbers internationally, particularly in Pakistan, where audiences are turning out in large numbers.
Cinegold Plex, a major theatre chain in Pakistan, recently posted a video showcasing packed auditoriums for the film. Diljit, who stars in the film alongside Hania, shared the viral clip via his Instagram stories.
The video captures audience reactions during a screening and even highlights a scene featuring Hania Aamir. The caption on the video reads: “12 shows on ultra screens—the largest in the country. Overwhelming response from the audience for Sardaar Ji 3. Come and watch!”
Another post shared by the singer-actor celebrated the film’s impressive global earnings. According to box office reports, the film raked in ₹4.32 crore on its opening day and ₹6.71 crore on the second, bringing its worldwide total to ₹11.03 crore within just two days. These numbers span international markets including the UK, USA, UAE, and Pakistan, where the film has clearly struck a chord.

Controversy Around ‘Sardaar Ji 3’
‘Sardaar Ji 3’ found itself in trouble earlier this year when it was revealed that Hania Aamir, a Pakistani actor, had been cast opposite Diljit. Following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, sentiments in India soured, prompting the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to appeal to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny the film a release certificate.
As a result, the makers chose to skip the Indian theatrical release altogether, opting instead for an overseas rollout. Addressing the controversy, Diljit told BBC Asian Network, "When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February and things were okay back then. After that, a lot of big things happened that were beyond our control. So the producers decided that the film obviously won't be released in India now, so they'll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, nothing like this was happening."
The backlash hasn’t stopped there. Prominent film bodies have also urged the makers of ‘Border 2’ to remove Diljit from the cast, and similar calls have been made to director Imtiaz Ali, who is reportedly working on another project with the star.
