Sushmita Sen, who is portraying Shreegauri Sawant in the series 'Taali', shared the transgender activist's reaction after watching the series.

New Delhi: The trailer of Sushmita Sen’s upcoming series 'Taali' was released on Monday (August 7). The series is based on the story of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant and her fight for the recognition of the third gender in India. Sushmita, who is portraying Shreegauri Sawant in the series, shared what the transgender activist said to her after watching the series.

In a conversation with News 18, Sushmita Sen said that Shreeguri gave her a gift after watching her performance. “She (Shreegauri Sawant) came to me, blessed me, kissed my forehead, and gave me a gift. She told me, ‘I don’t want to watch. Yeh jo kar rahi hai, sahi kar rahi hai. Yeh meri marble chi murti hai (Whatever she is doing, she's doing fine. She is like my marble statue',” she told News 18.

Sushmita also spoke about her bonding with Shreegauri and said that she finds her very inspirational, and the series is a homage to the transgender activist’s life and her battles.

“If I’m sick, she’s the first person to come with a blessing. If I need something, she’ll make it her business to make that happen. She has love like that. That’s love in action, and that’s who she is. I find her very inspirational,” News 18 was quoted as saying.

The trailer of the series was unveiled on Monday with Sushmita's voice, saying "Namaste Mai Gauri. Ye Kahani mere jaise kayi logo ki hain, kyuki ye Gauri bhi kabhi Ganesh tha."

'Taali' throws light on the trials and tribulations of Shreegauri Sawant’s life - her daring transformation from Ganesh to Gauri, and the discrimination she was subjected to because of that, her fearless journey towards motherhood, and the audacious battle that led to the inclusion and identification of the third gender on every official document in India.
