Khoj review: Streaming platforms have given many underrated actors their much-deserved spotlight, and Zee5’s latest series, Khoj, is a perfect example. Known for his memorable supporting roles, Sharib Hashmi, famous as JK from The Family Man, takes center stage here. This series transforms him into the lead protagonist, Ved Khanna, giving him the recognition and weight his talent deserves.
Khoj plot
Ved Khanna (Sharib Hashmi) reports his wife Meera Khanna (Anupriya Goenka) missing at the police station. Two days later, she returns, but Ved insists that this woman isn’t his wife. The twist? Every piece of evidence—from family members to legal documents—proves she is indeed Meera. What follows is a nail-biting quest for the truth as Ved embarks on a mission to uncover what really happened to his wife. With seven episodes of approximately 25 minutes each, the series keeps you glued to the screen with its tight narrative and constant twists.
What works in Khoj
The pacing of Khoj is its strongest asset. Right from the beginning, it hooks you with its intriguing premise and doesn’t let go. There’s no room for unnecessary detours or filler episodes, making the show a perfect binge-watch. Every twist feels fresh and keeps you guessing, challenging your assumptions at every turn.
The suspense builds beautifully, and the conclusion is both satisfying and thought-provoking. It’s a testament to the creators that they didn’t stretch the storyline unnecessarily, ensuring every minute of the series feels impactful.
Performances
Sharib Hashmi shines in his role as Ved Khanna, delivering a layered and emotional performance. Unlike his comic roles, here he portrays a distressed lawyer and a father with remarkable depth. His portrayal of a man torn between love for his wife and his quest for truth is nothing short of spectacular.
Anupriya Goenka impresses as Meera Khanna, whose mysterious presence drives the story. Her charisma and screen presence add intrigue to the narrative, keeping viewers on edge.
Aamir Dalvi, as the policeman assisting Ved, is a delight to watch, bringing both gravitas and humor to his role. His line, “By the time your Rogan Josh is ready, we’ll find your wife,” brings levity in an otherwise tense drama. Child actor Ibadat Hussain, playing Ved’s daughter, adds a heartwarming touch with her innocence and charm. The supporting cast, including Kriti Garg and Ravira Bhardwaj, also deliver commendable performances.
Direction
Prabal Baruah’s direction is sharp and impactful. He avoids unnecessary subplots, focusing on the central narrative. The storytelling is gripping, and the series maintains its tension throughout. Baruah ensures every scene serves a purpose, keeping the audience engaged.
Khoj verdict
Khoj is an engaging mystery thriller that combines strong performances, a well-written script, and masterful direction. Sharib Hashmi’s powerful performance alone makes this series worth watching, but the story ensures you stay till the end.
If you’re a fan of suspenseful, fast-paced thrillers, Khoj is a must-watch.
